Life course approach to reproductive health and chronic disease in later life

G21 Ramsay Lecture Theatre | Christopher Ingold Building (link Map)
20 Gordon Street | London | WC1H 0AJ | United Kingdom

Open to: Academic | Student

Speaker: Professor Gita Mishra

It is increasingly recognized that some indicators of female reproductive health can act as sentinels for the risk of chronic diseases in later life in that they may signal an underlying predisposition for sub-clinical conditions. Established in June 2012, InterLACE combines individual level data on reproductive health and chronic disease for over 220,000 women from twenty studies of women’s health in ten countries. This seminar presents recent findings from InterLACE – from the variability in women’s reproductive characteristics (age at menarche, age at first birth, number of children, age at menopause) to the relationships between these factors and the subsequent risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
