Speaker information

Professor William Sherman, English Department, York
Professor Henry Woudhuysen, English Department, UCL

The 2010 series of seminars in the Centre for Early Modern Exchanges concludes with two talks on book history and libraries. Professor William Sherman from York will discuss one of the greatest private libraries and collections of books from the sixteenth century, gathered together by the son of Christopher Columbus, Fernando, the Biblioteca Colombina, which boasted more than 15,000 volumes. Regular writer for the TLS on rare books sales, Professor Henry Woudhuysen, turns his attention to the presence of continental books in early modern England and in particular the collections of the secretary Gabriel Harvey and dramatist and poet Ben Jonson.
