Keep the candle burning - A re-enactment of Michael Faraday's Christmas lectures
XLG2 Auditorium |
Christopher Ingold Building
20 Gordon Street | London | WC1H 0AJ | United Kingdom
Michael Faraday's 'Chemical History of a Candle' was a series of Christmas lectures that he delivered three times at the Royal Institution. The final series (1860-61) was published and became one of the best selling science books ever, still in print in English and translated into many other languages. This lecture, delivered in period costume, including live experimental demonstrations of candles, perhaps with explosions, explores why Faraday's lectures remain as relevant today as in the 19th century.
Join us to experience a Victorian extravaganza with Professor Frank James, Professor Steve Miller, Mr Oliver Marsh, Ms Farrah Lawrence and Ms Hattie Lloyd.
