Professor Gary Ruvkun, Department of Genetics at Harvard Medical School, Harvard University

‘Poisons and delusions of poisons: analysis of the surveillance systems for bacterial toxins'.

This annual prize lecture series has been running for 17 years and within this time has become one of the pre-eminent series on contemporary science in Europe. The whole event, which provides an opportunity to debate and celebrate important scientific advancements, has always been very stimulating and hugely enjoyable.

This year the Prize Lecture will be given by Professor Gary Ruvkun from the Department of Genetics at Harvard Medical School. Professor Ruvkun was one the recipients of the 2008 Lasker award for Basic Medical Research for discoveries that revealed an unanticipated world of tiny RNAs that regulate gene function in plants and animals.
