Getting the right scientific advice into the policy making process, at the right time and in the right manner, can have a transformative effect on policy outcomes. The Government Office for Science acts as one such transmission mechanism between experts and policy makers. This role is perhaps most obvious in emergencies such as the UK response to the Ebola crisis, however, the impact of good scientific advice can be seen across all policy areas, from the future of the energy markets to financial technology, to an ageing society and beyond. This is an opportunity to meet with members of Government Office for Science and discuss how policy making works in practice, and ways academia and government can work better together.
