Keir Starmer QC MP, Labour Member of Parliament for Holborn & St. Pancras

Keir Starmer QC MP is the Shadow Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union.

In 1990 Keir co-founded Doughty Street Chambers with the aim of improving access to justice and promoting human rights and civil liberties through the law. Over the next 15 years or so his practice focused mainly on human rights and the death penalty. He became Queen’s Counsel in 2002. From 2002 to 2007 he was the human rights advisor to the Policing Board in Northern Ireland. In 2008 he was appointed Director of Public Prosecutions and head of the Crown Prosecution Service. After stepping down as DPP in 2013 he worked on a victims’ law which formed a central part of Labour’s criminal justice strategy for 2015.
