Speaker information

Professor Louise Howard, King's College London

Professor Louise Howard: Recent evidence reviews for NICE and a Lancet clinical series on perinatal mental health have highlighted the high prevalence of mental disorders across the diagnostic spectrum and the very limited evidence base for interventions other than psychosocial interventions for postnatal depression. This talk explores the nature of the current evidence available including much controversies surrounding possible risks of psychotropic medication in pregnancy and the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of psychiatric Mother and Baby Units and discusses potential directions for future research.
