Fiona Shannon, PhD Candidate, Trinity College, Dublin

A repository of knowledge - The Schools' Manuscript Collection, offering a unique insight into medicinal practices in post independent Ireland.

Fiona Shannon is a Ph.D. candidate in Trinity College Dublin, School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Her talk will centre on her current research into the medicinal information within the Schools’ Manuscript Collection of over 700,000 pages of regional Irish traditional and folkloric knowledge, collected by school children in the 1930s. The Collection forms part of the National Folklore Collection in University College Dublin which has recently been inscribed into the UNESCO Memory of the World Register.

Refreshments will be served from 5pm.
