Institute of Archaeology Petrie Lecture: Tombs and politics - New discoveries at Dahshur
Darwin Lecture Theatre |
Malet Place | London | WC1E 6BT |
Ticketing: Pre-booking essential
Professor Dr Stephan Seidlmayer, Director of the German Archaeological Institute in Cairo (DAI) and Director of the Altägyptisches Wörterbuch - Ancient Egyptian Dictionary project at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences.
Dahshur is dominated by the Old Kingdom pyramids of Sneferu deep in the desert, and by the pyramids of the Middle Kingdom closer to the cultivation. Extensive cemeteries of the high officials are located in the vicinity of the pyramids and Professor Seidlmayer will talk about an unpublished discovery at the DAI excavations and the information this gives about the relationship between ideological messages and political and social structures in Middle Kingdom Egypt.
This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Petrie Museum.
