This lecture examines the educational problems and promises caused by the diversity that is a consequence of global migration and reviews theory and research that provide guidelines for helping students to acquire the knowledge, skills, and values required to become effective citizens of their communities, nation, and the world. It describes ways in which educators can work toward a sustainable version of social cohesion by providing diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, linguistic, and religious groups with an education that advances civic equality, recognition, and structural inclusion.
