Leslie Kurke, Professor of Classics and Comparative Literature, University of California, Berkeley

The lecture will consider Pindar’s pervasive analogizing of his epinikia to precious wrought objects, as well as his frequent recourse to the language of the erection and inscription of dedicated monuments for his own poetic activity.

The UCL Department of Greek and Latin regularly hosts a public lecture named in honour of its most celebrated professor (and poet) A. E. Housman and delivered by a scholar of international distinction.
