Speaker information

Prof Glyn Lewis, Head of Division of Psychiatry, UCL

There are an increasing number of studies that have investigated gene environment interaction, prompted by Caspi’s 2003 Science paper about the 5HT transporter polymorphism and stress. I will discuss what is meant by interaction, the claims made by the g*e proponents, and review the literature. I will take a critical stance and will question the value of this research, arguing it is based upon a misunderstanding of statistical interaction together with methods that increase type 1 errors.

Speaker information: Prof Glyn Lewis Host: Prof Angela Hassiotas, Division of Psychiatry.
