Speaker information: Dr David Rowitch MD PhD, Howard Hughes Medical Institute, University of California San Francisco. Host: Bill Richardson, UCL Institute of Neurology. The seminar will cover a line of investigation starting with fundamental neural developmental biology and work in disease models leading to a logical framework for investigation and therapy for human myelin disorders including cell-based therapy for Pelizaeus-Merzbacher Disease. Preliminary results of a clinical trial will be discussed. The talk will be geared towards both basic and clinical scientists. David Rowitch is best known for his co-discovery in 2000-2002 of the master transcriptional regulators of the oligodendrocyte lineage - the Olig genes. He became a Howard Hughes Investigator in 2007.
