Speaker information

Natascha Engel MP, Chair, Backbench Business Committee

Natascha Engel, Labour MP for North East Derbyshire and Chair of the Backbench Business Committee, will give a public seminar on the topic of parliamentary reform and the work of her committee. Natascha was elected as the first ever Chair of the newly established Committee on 22 June 2010. The Committee is responsible for scheduling debates on 35 days during the current session of Parliament. These days will be devoted to backbench business and at least 27 of them will be debates in the main Chamber of the House of Commons. The establishment of the Committee is an important step towards the creation of a more independent House of Commons.
