Brian Deer, Speaker, Brian is an award-winning British investigative reporter, best known for inquiries into the drug industry, medicine and social issues for the Sunday Times. He investigated concerns over the MMR vaccine, and was one of the journalists to expose the scandal. Not only has he written in the Times, The Sunday Times and The Leveller magazine but he's also presented documentaries such as 'Dispatches' on Channel 4 so has real first-hand experience of science exposure in the mass media.
Dr Evan Harris MP, Speaker, Evan has served as MP for Oxford West and Abingdon since his selection by the Liberal Democrats in 1997. Evan originally trained as a doctor at Oxford University before rising through the unions and becoming involved in national politics. Evan has not put aside his scientific routes and has served as the Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Health before standing down to now hold the position of Liberal Democrat Science Spokesperson. Alongside his party roles Evan sits on the House of Commons Science and Technology Select Committee.
Professor Steven Miller, Speaker, UCL Science & Technology Studies, With a PhD in physical chemistry and a background in journalism, professor Steven Miller combines research interests in science communication with planetary science. He is the head of the UCL Science and Technology Studies department, and the Director of the European Science Communication Network. His is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Public Communication of Science and Technology network (PCST), and he has
Dr Brian Balmer, Chair, UCL Science & Technology Studies, Brian Balmer is a Reader in Science Policy Studies at UCL and has specific interest in the science policy issues including biological warfare and the roles of volunteers in basic research.
