UCLPartners Centre for Neurorehabilitation Seminar: Exploiting plasticity in brainstem systems for rehabilitation, a lecture

Basement Lecture Theatre (link Map)
33 Queen Square | London | WC1N 3BG | United Kingdom

Open to: Academic | Student

Speaker: Professor Stuart Baker, Newcastle University

About this lecture: In this lecture, I will describe our work on how the reticulospinal tract contributes to movement in healthy primates (including humans), with a special focus on hand function. This system becomes especially important when the corticospinal tract is damaged after a stroke; then, strengthening reticulospinal connections can aid, but also limit, recovery. Finally, I will review our most recent work exploring novel stimulus protocols which can induce plastic changes in this pathway, and describe how these can be used to improve hand function in stroke survivors.
