Starring Claude Rains as Julius Caesar and Vivien Leigh as, arguably, cinema’s greatest Cleopatra, this stunning adaptation of George Bernard Shaw’s take on history’s most famous love affair features an all-star cast of British theatrical talent. Beautifully designed and photographed in Technicolor, this was the most expensive British film made at the time of its release and it remains an unparalleled retelling of this oft-filmed tale.

Introduced by John J Johnston.
