Speaker information

Professor Robert Speller, Joel Professor, Robert Speller is Head of the Radiation Physics Group. His research interests cover scattered photon fields, novel sensors and detector systems and the development of imaging systems. The application areas are in medical diagnosis and treatment, security and industrial imaging. Originally a cosmic ray physicist Robert Speller moved into physics applied to medicine in 1973. Made Head of Radiation Physics in 1983 he has directed the development of radiation physics into three major areas - scattered photon fields, sensors and novel imaging systems.

The links between Space, sidereal time and Radiation Physics have been explored for almost a half century by Professor Robert Speller. He will give you a description of how the different apects have influenced his progress through this field and point to new directions yet to be explored.

The Joel Chair is the oldest-established Chair in Medical Physics in the world. It is currently held by Professor Robert Speller of the Department of Medical Physics & Biomedical Engineering at UCL.

The talk will be followed by a Reception in the UCL South Cloisters.
