The deluge – and beyond: The black arts movement in Britain

Location

Chadwick G07 | Chadwick Building (link Map)
Gower St | London | WC1E 6BT | United Kingdom

Open to: Academic | Alumni | Public | Student
Admission: Free
Ticketing: Open

Taking Stuart Hall’s assertion that 1980s Britain saw the onset of a “deluge” of creative activity within the black community as its starting point, this event will examine the multi-faceted output of artists of the black diaspora working at the height of Thatcherism and civil unrest. It will situate the movement within its historical context, as well as delineate its relevance to the issues facing black people today.
