Speaker information

Mr Michel Sidibé, Executive Director, UNAIDS

Michel Sidibé, Executive Director of UNAIDS and Under Secretary-General in the United Nations

The MDG era has been a remarkable one for global health. Nowhere is this more evident than in HIV. Social activism and political mobilization delivered unprecedented progress in terms of infections averted and treatment access while elevating the principles of inclusion, rights and dignity – particularly for society’s most vulnerable.

In this lecture, Michel Sidibé argues that while the previous decade offers valuable lessons, we need a fundamental rethinking of our principles and approaches. In particular, we must mobilize for health justice as the engine of people-centred development by reducing shared risks and advancing common interests in a paradigm of shared responsibility and global solidarity.

Please note the lecture will be followed by a drinks reception on the balcony area outside the Kennedy Lecture Theatre.
