Open to: Academic | Alumni | Public | Student

Freshwaters have, until recently, received relatively little attention in biodiversity assessments. There is a pressing need to determine the critical factors responsible for the loss of freshwater biodiversity and to ensure that the outputs of scientific research in this area are made more accessible, practical and useful for society as a whole.

At this one day meeting we bring together key scientists, policy makers and managers responsible for freshwaters to address the scale of freshwater biodiversity loss, the role of biodiversity in freshwater ecosystems, the pressures on the biodiversity of standing and running waters, the importance of biodiversity to society, freshwater biodiversity and conservation policy, and public understanding of freshwater biodiversity issues.
