Speaker information

Lynn Meskell, Professor of Anthropology, Stanford University, USA, Lynn Meskell (PhD Cambridge, 1997) is Professor of Anthropology at Stanford University's Department of Anthropology and is undertaking research focusing on the role of UNESCO in terms of heritage rights, sovereignty and international politics. Her current research and teaching interests cover a broad range of fields, including ethnography in South Africa, Egyptian archaeology, identity and sociopolitics, gender and feminism, and heritage ethics.

In this talk Prof Meskell will look specifically at the recent developments and implications of decisions taken by the World Heritage Committee in their implementation of the 1972 Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage.
