In this episode of cult television series Xena: Warrior Princess we are introduced to Aphrodite and her son Cupid (Season 2, Episode 16, 1997). In a dispute involving a pair of human lovers and Aphrodite’s temples, Aphrodite accepts the wager that she can turn any man into a romantic hero, irresistible to all women. The man of choice is the hapless Joxer, who changes from bumbling comic character to dashing hero at the sound of a bell.

The film showing will be accompanied by a talk by Amanda Potter on the different aspects of Aphrodite from Greek myth.
