Peter Hansford, was appointed Government Chief Construction Adviser in December 2012 and in this role works with government and industry to ensure Britain’s construction sector is equipped with the knowledge, skills and best practice needed to transition to a low carbon economy. Prior to this Peter was an executive director at the Nichols Group where he was engaged in strategic consulting and advising on infrastructure developments and capital investment programmes. He has over 30 years’ experience in the development and delivery of major infrastructure and building projects. Peter is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers and a Fellow of the Association for Project Management.
In July 2013 the government and construction industry launched a new strategy setting out a series of plans to radically transform the industry and creating a clear vision of where the UK construction industry will be in 2025. Key ambitions include reducing initial and whole life costs of construction, reducing overall delivery time from inception to completion, lowering emissions and improving exports.
Professor Peter Hansford joins the school to present his insights into this vision - outlining the steps taken over the last three years by government and industry to transform construction in the UK.
