Speaker information

Dr Ernesto Lava

For a long time we have used visual representations to communicate patterns, distributions and trends in our data tables (e.g. line charts, bar charts & pie charts). Current digital tools allow us to have different (and arguably more powerful) representations that can deal with large datasets, and produce complex visual representations. This seminar will present general concepts related to Data Visualisation through a series of examples that have been developed in recent work with educational institutions (Ministries of Education & Higher Education Institutions). Dr. Laval has worked for the last 20 years building bridges between the world of information technologies and different sectors in our society (mainly in education). Today, he is working on different strategies to democratise the access to data and information through Open Data & Data Visualisation and promoting the Makers movement among young students.
