Speaker information

Professor John Martin, Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine, UCL
Professor Semir Zeki, Professor of Neuroesthetics, UCL

Professor Zeki has performed brain scanning on individuals from diverse cultures while observing objects of beauty or ugliness. He has identified different areas of the brain that are activated by ugliness and beauty. These areas are constant across cultures.

Professor Martin will argue that Prof. Zeki's findings do not necessarily indicate that beauty is a molecular structure in the brain but is recognised by a function structure above the molecular.
