2013 marks the centenary of the retirement of Sir William Ramsay, one time head of the Chemistry Department at UCL and the discoverer of the Noble gases. With the support of UCL museums UCL Chemistry Collections will celebrate by putting on a very special pop-up. The UCL Chemistry Collections have a wealth of objects relating to Ramsay’s discoveries that are usually not available for visitors to view. Professor Alwyn Davies FRS, Emeritus Professor from Chemistry, will be on hand to explain Ramsay’s work and discuss it’s significance to science. Come and see the worlds ‘first’ neon sign, his personal papers and Ramsay’s original experimental tubes in action.
