The fight against TB - improving our odds
326 Earls Court Road | London | SW5 9BQ | United Kingdom
The Pint of Science festival 2014 will see some of world’s best scientific researchers travel to pubs across the UK to discuss their latest findings with you.
Attendees will have the chance to get face-to-face with the people involved in carrying out current research. You can listen to them talk, join in games and quizzes, or just enjoy a chat over a pint.
Guest speaker for this event is Professor Tim McHugh (UCL Centre for Clinical Microbiology). The centre performs research into many diseases caused by microorganisms. One of these diseases is tuberculosis (TB) which is caused by mycobacterium tuberculosis. Although the disease has long been both preventable and curable, someone still dies from tuberculosis somewhere in the world every twenty seconds. Tim will tell us about his team's research into more effective methods for detecting and killing TB. Tim will also be accompanied by one of his team members who will tell us about the research they are currently performing.
