Professor Lisa Downing, Professor of French Discourses of Sexuality, University of Birmingham

A special one-off seminar and screening of four short films, the culmination of a Wellcome Trust funded project on 'Damaging the Body'. The free event will include a talk by Professor Lisa Downing (University of Birmingham) on “Cultural Narratives of Erotic Asphyxiation” and the first screening of the short films: “Extraordinary Eaters: Food, Foreign Bodies, and Medical Intervention”. The films were made on location at medical museums in London and Bristol and feature experts including Dr Emma Spary and Professor Mary Cappello.

Refreshments provided. Admission free but tickets must be pre-ordered.
