Speaker information

Paul Varga, Teaching Assistant, UCL

Gamification is a fairly new trend to engage users solving problems via game thinking and game mechanics. Especially in education and healthcare gamification and serious games are used to foster intrinsic motivation to solve daily problems.

UCL MSI alumni and faculty member Paul Varga is currently applying game mechanics to oral health. Most kids do not enjoy the daily routine of toothbrushing and are therefore not brushing regularly, long-enough and accurately. By transforming toothbrushes into gaming controllers, Paul and his team are currently solving this problem.

Paul will speak about his experience gamifying a standard routine using Playbrush as an example. He will showcase Playbrush and talk about his experiences developing a HealthTech product together with families, dentists, health experts and institutions.
