PALS Career Talk - Dr Jessica Barnes: Behavioural Insights Team

Jeffery Hall (Room 103) | UCL Institute of Education (link Map)
20 Bedford Way | London | WC1H 0AL | United Kingdom

Open to: Academic | Student

Jessica Barnes is a Senior Advisor at the Behavioural Insights Team (BIT), an organisation that aims to achieve a positive social impact by adapting evidence-based interventions from the behavioural science literature, applying them to new contexts, and rigorously evaluating their effects.

In her talk she will discuss how the skills picked up during a PhD or post-doc can be applied in new and different contexts; the challenges faced when trying to embed empiricism into areas where it hasn’t traditionally been used; trying to have a positive impact on people’s lives in a relatively short time-frame (there are pros and cons!); and the interaction between policy and research in an organisation like BIT.

All talks will be followed by a food and drinks reception.

Convenor: Dr Eva Krumhuber e.krumhuber@ucl.ac.uk
