The eighth UCL-IRDR Annual Conference will be offering a varied and lively programme with the theme of "New Directions in Disaster Risk Reduction and Humanitarian Response". Our keynote speaker will be the Rt Hon. Baroness Frances D'Souza, who is eminent, not only for her work as former Speaker of the House of Lords, but also for her many accomplishments in the humanitarian field. We also have sessions on Space Weather, a phenomenon that could seriously disrupt daily life, and Disaster Futures, a discussion of where the disaster risk reduction field may be moving towards. Finally, we offer a conversation between the well-known BBC presenter Julian O'Halloran and Dr Richard Bretton, who combines a long and distinguished career as a leading solicitor with a new professional life as a volcanologist.

Agbo Emmanuel C.
