Cross-Cohort Research: Opportunities, Challenges and Examples

Court Room | Senate House (link Map)
Malet Street | London | WC1E 7HU | United Kingdom

Open to: Academic | Student

This workshop provides an overview of the opportunities and challenges inherent in cross-cohort research. The workshop is primarily aimed at early career researchers. It will provide participants with an awareness of the advantages and potential pitfalls in carrying out comparative research and will help to guide good practice.

The workshop will provide participants with details of the different approaches proposed so far for multiple study analyses, with specific examples of work carried out to harmonise body size and socioeconomic variables across multiple UK cohorts in CLOSER. It will provide demonstration of how these variables can be used to address relevant research questions. The workshop will also include speakers from other successful large cross-cohort initiatives from different disciplines; they will outline their approaches to data harmonisation and cross-cohort analysis and highlight how any challenges were overcome.
