UCL Public Policy in Conversation: Nicola Blackwood

Room 1.20 (link Map)
Malet Place Engineering Building | London | WC1E 6BT | United Kingdom

Open to: Academic | Student

Want to hear how politicians use science? How science policy is formed and how your research might support decisions in Government?

Join us at UCL for a lunchtime conversation with Nicola Blackwood (former MP and Science and Technology Select Committee Chair), where she discusses her career in politics, how scientific advice is used in making public policy and why relationships between academics and politicians are important.

Nicola Blackwood is Chair of the Human Tissue Authority and a trustee of the Campaign for Science and Engineering. Until 2017 she was Member of Parliament for Oxford West and Abingdon. During her time in the House of Commons, she chaired the influential Science and Technology Select Committee which held inquiries into the UK's scientific response to Ebola, Big Data and the digital skills gap and a review of government spending on the science budget before being appointed Under Secretary of State for Health.
