Speaker information

Dr. Joe Cain, UCL Science and Technology Studies

Step back into 1980s Australia and meet the infamous Cane Toad: in the Outback, outsized, and out of control. An eccentric cast of characters reflects on the impact of this alien amphibian originally introduced to eradicate pests from sugarcane crops and offer a hilarious insight into life in small-town Oz. Dr. Joe Cain will introduce the short film, and afterwards lead a lively panel discussion on the complexities of ‘invasive’ and ‘native’ species.
