Sequencing is changing.

Recent advances in chemistry and computational processing speed have enabled new technologies for disease diagnostics in real time, and resolving repeat-rich or otherwise difficult to assemble genomic regions. This is achieved through increasing read-lengths, rapid sequencing times and portability with Pacific BioSciences and Oxford Nanopore the two main players.

In the latest UCL Genetics Institute symposium, we present some diverse applications in this fast moving field, to showcase some of their new applications and their advantages over more conventional sequencing approaches.

Representatives of these two major sequencing technologies will be present to answer questions, and nine scientists using long-read technologies will reveal new insights in human immunity and neurology, as well as plant, viral, fungal and bacterial genomics, all achieved through the use of long sequencing reads.
